BNA Tax and Accounting Center now available remotely

The BNA Tax and Accounting Center used to be available only on the selected resource computers in the Business Library. It is now available remotely. See http://ezproxy.msu.edu:2047/login?url=http://taxandaccounting.bna.com/btac/.

The Tax and Accounting Center offers practitioners a comprehensive array of analysis, news, primary sources, and practice tools covering federal and international tax issues. We have access to the U.S. Income portfolios, Foreign Income portfolios, and Estates, Gifts and Trusts portfolios. The U.S. Income portfolios covers federal income tax planning and compliance issues for individuals and businesses, from alternative minimum tax to mergers and acquisitions to uniform capitalization rules, plus special planning areas such as divorce, bankruptcy, intellectual property, and financial instruments. The International Tax has information on tax issues of both individuals and entities, including U.S. companies doing business abroad and foreign enterprises with U.S. operations. The Estates, Gifts and Trusts portfolios contains information on planning for estate, gift, and generation-skipping taxes, business succession, estate administration, charitable giving, fiduciary income tax, and tax-exempt organizations.

New Database - Mergent EventsData

The Business Library has acquired a new database called Mergent EventsData. (See http://ezproxy.msu.edu:2047/login?url=http://www.eventsdata.com.) It replaces a number of our print titles including Mergent Dividend Record, Mergent Unit Investment Trusts, Mergent Bond Record. Mergent EventsData provides information on stock-splits, mergers, tender offers, partial/full calls, name changes, etc. EventsData message feeds enable users to capture and analyze breaking business developments as they occur. EventsData consists of five modules: corporate actions, corporate dividends, fixed income, municipal called bonds, and unit investment trusts. We hope to have training sometime in the near future. Keep an eye out for future posts. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Breezy Silver.

WRDS Scheduled Downtime - Tuesday, September 29, 2009

WRDS Scheduled Downtime — Tuesday, September 29, 2009.

The WRDS server will be undergoing scheduled maintenance from 12:00pm-8:00pm ET on Tuesday, September 29, 2009.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

During this period, the WRDS website will be unavailable. However, access will remain for those users accessing WRDS through UNIX and PC SAS Connect. Interactive queries during this period should continue to run unaffected.

WRDS will be adding additional network hardware to expand capacity.

As a result of this upgrade to the new WRDS website (http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu), users will experience the following:
· Improved execution time for queries when WRDS is under heavy load.
· New users will have the ability to apply for WRDS accounts from the new website home page:
http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu/wrds/index.cfm
· WRDS Reps will be able to review and approve new account requests through the enhanced Rep Tools under MyWRDS>Rep Tools>Pending Approval.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to enhance your WRDS service and performance.
Information will be posted on the WRDS site once this downtime has been completed.
