There is no one definition for robots. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica a robot is “any automatically operated machine that replaces human effort, though it may not resemble human being in appearance or perform functions in a humanlike manner.” The term “robot” was first used by Karel Capek in his 1921 play, R.U.R (Rossum’s Universal Robots). The study of robots is call “robotics”, a term coined by the prolific science fiction writer, Isaac Asimov and first used in his short story, Liar published in 1941. These terms are used in both fact and fiction.
