New Books – Coming Soon!

Next, new books will no longer be placed on a temporary shelf for viewing but will now be sent directly to their permanent location on the shelf. This will shorten processing time, providing you with the opportunity to check them out much sooner! You can see a list of all our new books, as they come in, by visiting the Mathematics Library – New Books Blog.

New Journals – Coming Soon!

Finally, new journal issues will now proceed to the current journals shelving area immediately upon receipt. The Current Journals shelving area will also now be organized in alphabetical order allowing you to easily find the newest issues of your favorite journal titles! Journals will still include their library call number for easy referencing to older issues.

Stop in and see the changes in the near future!

School Science and Mathematics Electronic Backfile Available

Look for it by title in the Libraries' catalog or click here: http://catalog.lib.msu.edu/record=b4894979~S1a and choose "Full text available from Wiley-Blackwell Journals (Backfile Content) - MSU authorized users."

Math Library Summer Hours

The Math Library will be open the following hours during the summer:

Monday - Friday: 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday: closed

If you are looking for study space outside of those hours, please consider using the Main Library (open until 10:00 pm Sunday - Thursday), the Business Library and Engineering Library (open until 9:00 pm Sunday - Thursday). Main, Business, and Engineering are all open on the weekends, too. For more details, please see the Libraries' hours page at http://www.lib.msu.edu/general/library-hours-cal.jsp?unit_id=11.

Access to Wells Hall During Summer Construction

Please be aware that from Monday, June 20 at 7:00 a.m. through Friday, June 25 at 5:00 p.m., some doors into Wells Hall will be inaccessible. These include the handicap-accessible doors in the B-wing.

Also, Red Cedar Road in front of the Math Library is currently closed due to the demolition of the M.S.C. smokestack. Parking is still available in the stadium lot accessible from Shaw Lane.

The Math Library will continue to operate normally during these construction projects. Thank you for your patience!

Math in the Movies

From MathDL's Math in the News: "Oliver Knill (Harvard University) has developed a website dedicated to Mathematics in the Movies.

"The site features a collection of clips from more than 200 movies in which mathematics plays a part.

"Following up on suggestions by film and math enthusiasts, he's been revising and updating the collection continually for the last five years.

"Each clip comes with an explanation of the mathematics within, and every movie is linked to a range of formats for viewing."

International Mathematical Union Document on Best Current Practices for Journals

"At its General Assembly held August 16-17, 2010 in Bangalore, India, the International Mathematical Union (IMU) endorsed a new document giving best practice guidelines for the running of mathematical journals. The document deals with the rights and responsibilities of authors, referees, editors and publishers, and makes recommendations for the good running of such journals based on principles of transparency, integrity and professionalism."

AMS Digital Archive

The American Mathematical Society (AMS) has established a complete digital archive of its mathematical research journals.
Over 34,000 articles are available from over 100 years of high-quality mathematical research in 'Journal of the AMS,'
'Mathematics of Computation,' 'Proceedings of the AMS,'
'Transactions of the AMS,' and 'Bulletin of the AMS.' All back issues, starting with each journal's inaugural issue through 2005, are now freely available in electronic format.

Researchers can browse the contents of each journal to find articles and authors in each volume and issue, and can search across the entire archive by journal or group of journals at:
http://www.ams.org/joursearch/. View the abstract, references (with links to MathSciNet), bibliographic information, Mathematics Subject Classifications for each article, or view a PDF of the full article.

Each journal is unique in its offering of articles, book reviews, and reports. AMS journals have consistently been managed by editors highly prominent in their fields.
