Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is going after the pensions of 12 ex-Detroit Public School officials convicted of bribery in a $2.7 million kickback scheme.

Schuette initiated civil forfeiture actions on Friday that seek to forfeit all state or DPS contributions from the time the bribery began until the time of the termination or retirement of the employee.

Flint students would receive help with tuition for college or university in the city under legislation the state Senate overwhelmingly approved Thursday.

Staff from bill sponsor Sen. Jim Ananich’s office said they hope the amount of tax revenue captured in Flint by the proposed legislation would be enough to provide help for at least an associate’s degree at a higher education institution in the city.

Three bills that were introduced in the wake of an accident that resulted in the death of five bicyclists passed the Michigan Senate on Thursday.

The bills would require vehicle drivers to give bicyclists at least five feet of space when they're passing them on the road. Another bill would require three hours of training in drivers' education classes dealing with bicycle and motorcycle safety.
