In the Wall Street Journal article “Google Searches for Role in App Age,” Rolfe Winkler breaks down Google’s strategy to ensure its advertising business stays relevant in the mobile age. Google was built around searching the web. The company deployed “spiders” to find links and created algorithms to rank the value of pages. In October, the Lansing area hosted Startup Weekend: Maker Edition, where teams from across the region came and competed, turning an idea into a business over three days. In the run up to that weekend, 12 local organizations celebrated their role in enabling people to bring their visions to life by being a part of the Maker Week Lansing. The Gast Business Library is hosting an International Tea as a way to provide a friendly venue for interaction between our students and our librarians. We want to increase awareness of the services that we can provide to aid the success of all of our business students! Breezy Silver, Assistant Head of the Gast Business Library, recently attended the Face of Analytics Conference at Spartan Stadium, which showcased the MS in Business Analytics program at Michigan State University.
Employers from four different companies discussed how their companies use data analytics, described the types of people and skills needed in the field, and provided career advice. Lansing Maker Week is almost here. MSU Libraries is one of more than a dozen community partners that will be contributing to Lansing’s first annual Maker Week. As one of the Lansing Maker Week partners, the MSU Libraries will be showcasing maker activities we support during an open house. There will be demos of the Espresso Book Machine, which is capable of printing a book in 7 minutes from a pdf file, and the new 3D printer.
When: Tuesday, October 7 from 12-4pm

3D Printing is a form of additive manufacturing that creates objects from digital designs by layering plastic or other material to match the design. This technology is quickly changing how models and products are being created in a wide variety of fields, from airplane engine manufacturing to jewelry design. On Tuesday, September 9, to celebrate the launching of 3D Printing services at the Main Library, MSU Libraries hosted representatives from Packaging, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine to highlight how the technology is being used on campus.
