The Papers of Gilbert Salazar, Sr.

Long-time resident, sports enthusiast, organizer, coach and sports journalist for El Renacimiento Gilbert Salazar, Sr. passed away June 22, 2012 at the age of 75. El Renacimiento was published in Lansing from the early 1970's through 1989. Salazar's byline included articles on Latin American boxing, wrestling, bowling Leagues, Golden Gloves, youth to over-60 teams, women and mens teams acompanied by photos. He was co-author of Lansing's Latin American leagues : history in the making (2000). Salazar's family and co-author Noé Hernandez donated a rich cache of 800 photographs, league schedules and by-laws, news clippings, and other notes as well as 4 league championship trophies to the Cesar E. Chavez Collection. Materials are currently being processed. The Papers of Gilbert Salazar, Sr. will become available in late Spring 2013.
